How to train employees on using PPE

Last updated: 2024-10-06

This article is intended for training managers, OHS managers or line managers, who confirm the completion of training.

PPE Safety Training

Employees must undergo instruction and must be properly trained in the use of PPE, so they know how to use it correctly and possibly report any defects. Training ensures that workers have the knowledge and skills in the correct use of aids. High expertise can only be achieved by repeated practice of the correct use of PPE, which is crucial for example in PPE against falls and for work at heights, where incorrect use leads to a high risk of death.

  • Training is one of the employer's obligations.
  • It is part of supporting workers to know when and how to use specific protective aids, and also to understand their possible limitations to prevent their possible damage by their actions.
  • Workers must not be satisfied with wearing PPE and assume that the danger no longer exists.

How to Create a Record of Completed PPE Safety Training

This method of keeping training records is particularly suitable for situations when training takes place directly at the workplace, for example by a direct supervisor or safety manager and you need to have proof that the worker has been trained, instructed or familiarized with how to use their protective equipment correctly. All such instructional training is kept in the OHS training record.

  1. Open the training catalog record, where you keep your OHS training
  2. Select the instruction or training that the worker must complete at his workplace
  3. After performing, enter "Confirmation"
  4. Confirm the training. The employee can also confirm that he has completed the training
  5. The employee sees all completed training in his self-service

Overview of Completed Training

  • For each training in the training catalog, you can see who completed it and when
  • Each worker sees in their folder a list of completed training or instructions
  • You have a record of when the training took place and when it must take place next if it is repeated training
