What types of medical check-ups are there for employees in companies?

Every company as an employer must ensure and monitor not only the entry medical examination but also periodic or extraordinary medical examinations for its employees. Usually in most countries, there are regulatory / compliance-based medical exams (required by OSH) andvoluntary or benefit-based wellness checkups (offered as part of employee benefits or wellness programs).

There are most usual types of Medical Checkups and Health Screenings in SMBs:

  • Pre-employment Health Screening: Purpose is to determine if the candidate is fit for a particular role before hire. Common in: Healthcare, transportation, construction, manufacturing. Positions that require physical exertion, safety responsibilities, or driving. May include drug and alcohol testing, physical ability tests, TB or Hepatitis screening (especially in healthcare), Vaccination status (e.g., flu, COVID-19). Not required for all job roles, but commonly used for risk-sensitive positions.
  • OSHA-Mandated Medical Exams. Required for employees exposed to hazardous substances (e.g., asbestos, lead, benzene), high noise levels, confined spaces or dangerous machinery
  • Annual Wellness Checkups: Voluntary and often offered as part of employer-sponsored health insurance or wellness programs. Promoted to prevent chronic disease, Reduce long-term health costs, encourage early detection and treatment
  • Return-to-Work Evaluation: Requested after a serious illness, injury, or extended leave. Purpose is to ensure the employee is medically fit to return to work. May be required after workplace accidents, following hospitalization or surgery, for roles with physical or safety demands
  • Job-Specific Screenings: These are customized exams required for certain high-risk jobs: e.g. Forklift Operator, Commercial Driver (CDL), Lab Technicians, Emergency Responders

How to plan ad schedule medical examinations for employees

  1. Open the employee records. Here you have all employees divided by job positions (Employee categories).
  2. Select any employee in the records.
  3. Go to the "Activity Plans" tab, where you can create medical examinations using maintenance plans.
  4. Select "Create activity".
  5. Name the examination according to your needs.

  • For periodic examinations, set the repetition period and you can also set reminders to notify you.

How to confirm a medical examination has been done

Once the examination plan is set up, a button to confirm the completion of the medical examination will appear. As an HR person, you confirm that the examination was completed based on the certificate the employee provides. You attach a scanned confirmation from the doctor, and the document is saved automatically.
